Urja-STEM Education - LAB ON BIKE

About:

Lab on Bike is an innovative STEM education initiative that fosters experiential learning. Through hands-on experiments, students deepen their understanding of scientific concepts, bridging the gap created by limited access to modern educational resources. This approach enhances their ability to apply knowledge and skills, nurturing creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities. A key emphasis of the program is promoting awareness of green and clean energy, as well as energy conservation, advocating for a transition from conventional brown energy sources to sustainable green alternatives.

Objective:

  1. Enhance accessibility to hands-on science education for economically disadvantaged students attending government schools.
  2. Foster curiosity, creativity, and leadership skills among underprivileged children through engaging educational experiences.
  3. Supplement the existing government school curriculum with practical, experimental science education.
  4. Provide training for teachers in government schools on effective hands-on teaching pedagogy.
  5. Implement peer-to-peer teaching and learning strategies to further enhance educational outcomes and collaboration among students

State and national-level science model competitions were organized through the Urja Milaan in Renewables. It enhanced students' confidence and fostered peer-to-peer learning. Additionally, exposure visits to renowned institutions such as the National Science Centre in Delhi and the Science Experience Centre in Kuppam encouraged students to think creatively and outside the box

At the core of this intervention is the strengthening of community institutions, achieved through ongoing teacher training workshops held across various locations. These workshops focused on effective pedagogy training, aiming to reinforce the fundamentals of science and encourage innovative teaching approaches to make classroom sessions more interactive and engaging.

Lab On Bike initiative has scaled upto 292 schools and impacting 38K+ students across 10 states in FY24.
